In December my Uncle Karson and Aunt Linzy gave Nixon a balance bike for Christmas. He got pretty good on it!
A couple of months ago while we were in Sun Valley riding bikes, my mom had Nixon try a little bike without training wheels at a bike rental store. He did really well and rode down the side walk a good ways without any trouble. BUT he has his Momma's genes and he was just scared...even though he didn't crash and he did a great job. We hadn't put him on a bike without training wheels since...Yesterday (Sept 30th) Conner took of his training wheels. He had a royal melt down, but Conner still managed to talk him into riding down the street. I was in the house at the time and had no idea any of this was going on. I heard screaming and ran outside to see what happened. Apparently Nixon did awesome riding down the street without training wheels, but he wouldn't do it again. He wanted his training wheels back on! Conner was getting frustrated and came in the house. I went out and tried to bribe Nixon with EVERYTHING I could think of. Candy, the park, money, going to the store the next day to buy a toy....you name it...I said it! He just kept crying for his training wheels. I told him to go down the street five times and he would be able to get a toy. Well, he had a change of heart and did just that. BUT after he was done he still asked for his training wheels! What a stink! Conner told him he would ride bikes with him down to the park which was around the corner from our house. They hoped on the bikes and off they went. When he came back he was SO excited and hasn't asked for his training wheels since. He just will always ask if I am proud of him for riding his bike with no training wheels. Today he rode his bike almost a half mile to a different park, and back to our house. He is doing awesome! Especially for it only being his second day without training wheels. I think the balance bike totally worked for the kid!!!
